Bent Plywood Chair

This project was an exercise in bent plywood.

I was inspired by the art of Kirigami in this project. Kirigami creates 3D form using cuts and folds in a single sheet of paper. I wanted to bring an interesting functional form out of a flat piece of plywood.
The chair was made by cutting two length-way slits into a rectangular sheet of plywood. Using a carefully designed MDF jig the wood between the slits was bent up to form the seat while the rest was bent to form the sides of the chair. An MDF support was made to then sit in underneath the seat to add support and a heavier elemental aesthetic to the chair.
